Google St. Patrick's Day 2013 Logo Gets Animated With Irish Step Dancing

Google is wishing users a happy St. Patrick's Day today with a cute animated Google Doodle featuring a group of six Irish step dancers (five girls and a boy) all dressed in green, with each bearing one of the letters making up Google's name.

Here's a video from YouTube of the animated St. Paddy's Day logo showing the kids dancing and jumping on Google's home page:

In addition to the U.S., the St. Patrick's Day Doodle appears in other select countries, including Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

St. Patrick's Day is a religious holiday celebrated every March 17 on the anniversary of the day the patron saint of Ireland died in the fifth century.

This is the first animated logo Google has created for St. Patrick's Day, though they have done numerous animated and elaborate interactive logos for other occasions in recent years, such as Valentine's Day and Halloween.

Here's a look back at Google's St. Patrick's Day Doodles dating back to 2000 (note: Google didn't post a special logo in 2003).

Meanwhile, a recent parody video has a look at what might happen to people who combine Google Glass, Google's augmented reality eyewear, and too much drinking on St. Patrick's Day. The results aren't pretty (and are definitely not safe for work!).
