The evolution of voice-controlled search into a virtual personal assistant took another step forward with Google’s announcement that all Android-powered devices (KitKat or above) will now respond to the “hotword” OK, Google.

Users can initiate a search or control and carry out any function on the device simply by saying “OK, Google” first and then asking the question or stating the command: “Call XYZ . . . open my email”:

Starting today, you can say �Ok Google� on your Android device whenever the screen is on or your device is charging. If you�re reading your email, browsing the web or using any app that doesn�t actively use the microphone, saying �Ok Google� will get you the answers you need and let you take actions like set an alarm or call a friend.�

Google also allows OK, Google to operate from the lock screen if enabled. Previously the Moto X was the only Android device that permitted this capability.

In my view this is a differentiator for Android devices on the eve of Apple’s move into larger-screen hardware, which will reduce that Android advantage.

Voice control/search will soon be the primary way that users interact with Android devices, especially as the operating system expands into cars, onto wrists and on TV sets.

The coordinated action by five separate regulatory agencies is seen sparking a court challenge as Wall Street tries once again to avoid one of the harshest elements of the post-financial crisis crackdown. The rule, championed by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, was a last-minute addition to the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law and takes aim at a business that had been a big money spinner for banks before the crisis. The measure bans banks from making bets for their own profits, an activity known as proprietary trading that regulators deemed too risky for banks that enjoy government backstops. But banks argue the roughly 800-page rule will hurt markets because it is virtually impossible to distinguish profit-seeking trades from those needed to hedge against risks or trades executed on behalf of clients. "For something of this magnitude and this controversial ... there will be somebody who will challenge it," said Brian Cartwright, an adviser at consultancy Patomak Global Partners and a former general counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission, one of the agencies voting on the measure.     Although�Air Products & Chemicals has not expressed intentions to divest any of its businesses, investors have periodically questioned whether or not�Air Products & Chemicals should sell its volatile Electronics business (~17% of sales), which is more cyclical than its core industrial gases business.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- French telecommunications manufacturer Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) confirmed Tuesday plans to cut 10,000 jobs by 2015 as part of its plan to return the company to profitability.

The layoffs affect 14% of Alcatel-Lucent's global work force, including 4,100 positions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 3,800 in Asia Pacific and 2,100 in the Americas. By 2015, Alcatel-Lucent will have halved the number of global business hubs.

The job cuts are a key component to Alcatel-Lucent's "Shift Plan" to restructure and refocus R&D activities and reduce fixed costs. The moves will save 1 billion euros ($1.4 billion) by 2015, reducing fixed costs by more than 15%.

    LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- With the yen holding on to its gains and investors cautious as earnings season kicks off, Japanese stocks slid lower Friday after closing the previous day with some late-session gains. The Nikkei Stock Average (JP:NIK) fell 0.9% to 14,358.28, with the Topix down 0.8%, as the dollar bought 97.36 yen, little changed from 24 hours earlier.     Another under-$10 wireless telecom player that's starting to move within range of triggering a major breakout trade is Partner Communications (PTNR), a telecommunications company, provides cellular and fixed-line telecommunication services in Israel. This stock is off to a strong start in 2013, with shares up sharply by 29%.

    If you take a look at the chart for Partner Communications, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways for the last month, with shares moving between $7.28 on the downside and $7.96 on the upside. Shares of PTRN are bucking the overall market weakness today as the stock starts to move within range of triggering a breakout trade above the upper-end of its sideways trading chart pattern.

    Market players should now look for long-biased trades in PTNR if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.80 to $7.85 a share and then once it clears its 52-week high at $7.96 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that registers near or above its three-month average volume of 107,303 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then PTNR will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $10 to $12.20 a share.

    Traders can look to buy PTNR off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $7.38 to $7.28, or below its 50-day at $6.97 a share. One can also buy PTNR off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Android TV Shows Knowledge Graph Search Results

Google’s just announced Android TV is a significant improvement over the original Google TV.

It doesn’t require a game controller or bulky remote to work (though a game controller can be used for Google Play Games). And you can search for content with your voice.

The UI is simple and much more intuitive than Google TV. It’s controlled by an app for Android phones. Voice search works by using the Android handset rather than a mic on the TV. Smartwatches running Android will also be able to act as a remote (as I understand it) for Android TV.

Beyond the onstage demo during the Google I/O keynote, I had some time yesterday to play with Android TV. While it searches for and returns Google Play content it also appears to provide full Knowledge Graph search results. Currently, Android TV doesn’t index and return regular/cable TV results nor does it appear to extend search beyond Knowledge Graph.

Most people won’t be doing much conventional searching on Android TV. In all probability they’ll be searching for entertainment related content; so, for example, actors, movies, �TV shows as well as film and TV trivia. All of that content is available it appears. I was able to ask questions like, “who wrote The French Connection” and get answers.

I tried a number of other searches within and outside the scope of Knowledge Graph. Android TV didn’t return results where there wasn’t a Knowledge Graph entry. However, each time there was a Knowledge Graph entry it provided a result, e.g., “Who is the president of the United States.” (I’ve asked Google to clarify the scope of search on Android TV.)

Overall, searching Android TV via voice was simple, generally accurate and fast. This will be the primary way that users interact with the UI. Once a result is displayed you can use the remote (app) to browse and drill into results, which are displayed in grid format.

All this is separate from Chromecast, which was the subject of several announcements yesterday as well. Among them, Google said that friends will be able to “cast” from their devices to your TV without logging on to your WiFi. The company also said that “If your Android device runs KitKat (or higher), you�ll soon be able to cast any on-screen content directly to the TV.”

Accordingly �you can search the full Google index on your TV through Chromecast using a smartphone or laptop.

To bring Android TV to market Google announced a range of partners at I/O, including Sony, Sharp, Phillips, Razer and Asus. It said Android TV will be baked into sets but also available through set-top boxes and gaming consoles. Notably missing from the list was partner Samsung.

Where a lot of marketers fail with inbound marketing efforts is to view content solely as a link building tactic for SEO. Or they see content as something that only matters for search rankings and not something that can pull customers through from awareness to consideration to purchase.

Inbound relies on content toattract, engage and convert new customers that are actively looking for solutions. Marketers that understand how customers discover information on the web can effectively plan content around topics buyers want information on. Keyword research around those topics will aid in the optimization of the content so it can be found through search.

Best practices SEO is a combination of technical readiness of a website, optimized content and links. Factors like page loading speed, authorship and structured data can improve different aspects of search marketing performance as well.�Creating�useful information that is optimized for the things buyers are looking for is another best practice. What are some of the things B2B marketers need to consider as they plot their inbound and SEO strategies going forward?

For B2B marketers and longer sales cycles, content that fuels the buyer�journey is important and distinctly different than B2C. Studies show that content preferences for B2B marketers can be different, requiring brands to conduct research, produce longer form content and both on and offline events. While B2B is often�associated with boring white papers and case studies, the information in those content types is highly valuable for customer�acquisition.

Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RDS-A  ) has finally found a buyer for its downstream assets in Australia, as the Anglo-Dutch oil major embarks on a major restructuring of its global refining business and plans to sell billions of dollars worth of assets over the next two years.�

Shell sells Australian refinery and retail network
Shell today announced that it has reached a binding agreement to sell its 120,000 barrel-per-day Geelong oil refinery and network of some 870 Australian retail outlets to Vitol, one of the world's largest energy and commodity trading firms, for approximately A$2.9 billion (U.S. $2.6 billion).

The company had been seeking a buyer for the underperforming refinery since April 2012. Refineries in Australia, many of which are older and smaller, are simply not generating sufficient returns for Shell and other oil majors because of weak margins and intense competition from newer, larger refineries in other regions.

Geelong, for instance, had extremely thin margins because it was designed to process more expensive light crude oil from the nearby Bass Strait. The only option to revive Geelong's competitiveness would have been to upgrade the facility to process cheaper heavy crude oil -- a highly expensive alternative whose costs simply didn't outweigh the potential returns.

    Phillips 66 Partners (NYSE: PSXP) launched on July 23 as one of the most anticipated IPOs this year. PSXP owns some of the midstream logistics assets of its sponsor, Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX). PSXP has yet to announce its first distribution, but according to the IPO prospectus the minimum yield will be $0.85 per unit on an annualized basis. At the current unit price, this equates to a minimum annual yield of 2.8 percent, which is mainly a function of the huge run-up in unit price between the IPO pricing and today’s unit price. If the distribution does come in near the minimum, the unit price will almost certainly correct downward following the announcement.

    Marlin Midstream Partners (Nasdaq: FISH) launched on July 26. The partnership provides natural gas gathering, transportation, treating and processing services, NGL transportation services and crude oil transloading services. Marlin’s assets include three natural gas processing facilities in Texas, two natural gas gathering systems, two NGL transportation pipelines, and two crude oil transloading facilities. Marlin expects most of the gross margin to be generated under fee-based, minimum volume commercial agreements.

    Marlin targets a coverage ratio of 1.10x to support distributions. Marlin’s partnership agreement provides for a minimum quarterly distribution of $0.35 per unit for each whole quarter, or $1.40 per unit on an annualized basis. The prorated distribution for the two months of the recently concluded quarter since tje IPO should be announced soon. The minimum annual yield based on the current unit price is projected at 7.7 percent. The unit price has declined 6 percent since the IPO.

LRR Energy, L.P (LRR Energy) is a limited partnership formed by affiliates of Lime Rock Resources to operate, acquire, exploit and develop producing oil and natural gas properties in North America. The Company�� properties are located in the Permian Basin region in West Texas and southeast New Mexico, the Mid-Continent region in Oklahoma and East Texas and the Gulf Coast region in Texas. As of March 31, 2011, the Company�� total estimated proved reserves were approximately 30.3 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBoe), of which approximately 84% were proved developed reserves. During the year ended December 31, 2010, approximately 55% of its pro forma revenues were from oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs) and approximately 37% of its total estimated proved reserves were oil and NGLs. As of March 31, 2011, the Company operated 93% of its proved reserves. Based on its pro forma average net production of 6,503 barrels of oil equivalent per day (Boe/d) for December 31, 2010, the Company�� total estimated proved reserves as of March 31, 2011 had a reserve-to-production ratio of approximately 12.8 years. In January 2013, the Company acquired oil and natural gas properties in the Mid-Continent region in Oklahoma from its sponsor, Lime Rock Resources. In April 2013, it announced that it closed its acquisition of oil and natural gas properties in the Mid-Continent region in Oklahoma.

The Company�� general partner, LRE GP, LLC, is controlled by Lime Rock Management LP. The Company�� general partner has sole responsibility for conducting its business and for managing its operations. The Company�� properties consist of mature, low-risk onshore oil and natural gas reservoirs with long-lived, predictable production profiles located across three diverse producing regions: the permian basin region in west texas and southeast new mexico, the mid-continent region in oklahoma and east texas, and the gulf coast region in texas. As of March 31, 2011, the Company�� estimated proved developed non-! producing reserves included 192 gross (158 net) recompletion, refracture stimulation and workover projects. In addition, as of March 31, 2011, the Company�� proved undeveloped reserves included 213 gross (140 net) identified drilling locations.

As of March 31, 2011, approximately 55% of the Company�� estimated proved reserves and approximately 44% of its pro forma average daily net production for the three months ended December 31, 2010, were located in the Permian Basin region. Approximately 60% of the Company�� estimated net proved reserves in the Permian Basin region are oil and NGLs. The Permian Basin is one of the oil and natural gas producing basins in the United States, extending over 100,000 square miles in West Texas and southeast New Mexico, and has produced over 24 billion barrels of oil. The Company owns an 83% average working interest across 665 gross (552 net) wells and operates approximately 92% of its properties in the Permian Basin. The Company�� estimated proved reserves for its Permian Basin properties as of March 31, 2011 totaled 16.6 MMBoe and had a standardized measure of $237.7 million, which represented 69% of the total standardized measure for all of its estimated proved reserves.

The Company�� properties in the Red Lake area is an oil-weighted field located in Eddy County, New Mexico. The Red Lake properties have produced approximately 4.9 MMBoe. The primary producing formations are the San Andres and Yeso at a depth of approximately 2,000 to 5,000 feet. The Company operates approximately 99% of its proved reserves in the Red Lake area, including 157 gross (144 net) producing wells in the field with an average working interest of 92%, and own a non-operated working interest in 10 gross (3 net) additional wells in the area with an average working interest of 31%. The Company�� properties in the field contained 9.6 MMBoe of estimated net proved reserves as of March 31, 2011, approximately 86% of which are oil and NGLs, and generated average n! et produc! tion of 1,410 Boe/d for December 31, 2010. These properties represented 32% of its total estimated proved reserves as of March 31, 2011 and 22% of the Company�� pro forma average net production for December 31, 2010. In addition, these properties had a standardized measure of $163.3 million as of March 31, 2011, which represented 48% of the total standardized measure for all of the Company�� estimated proved reserves.

The Company�� properties in the Pecos Slope area is a gas-weighted field located in Eddy, Chaves, Lea and Roosevelt Counties, New Mexico. The Company operates approximately 100% of its proved reserves in the Pecos Slope area, including 434 gross (382 net) producing wells in the field with an average working interest of 88%. The Company�� Willow Lake field is an oil-weighted field located in Eddy County, New Mexico. There are 41 gross (8 net) producing wells in this area with an average non-operated working interest of 19%. The Cowden Ranch area is an oil-weighted field located in Crane County, Texas. The Company operate s100% of its proved reserves in the Cowden Ranch area, including 8 gross (approximately 5 net) producing wells in the field with an average working interest of 71%. The Company�� properties in the Corbin and Vacuum have produced approximately 3.0 MMBoe. The Company operates 100% of its proved reserves in the Corbin and Vacuum areas, including 8 gross (8 net) producing wells with an average working interest of 100%.

As of December 31, 2010, approximately 33% of the Company�� estimated proved reserves and approximately 38% of its pro forma average daily net production for December 31, 2010 were located in the Mid-Continent region. The Company�� Potato Hills Area is an Arkoma Basin natural gas property located in Latimer and Pushmataha Counties in Southeast Oklahoma. The Company�� Reklaw properties have produced approximately 5.6 MMBoe. The Company operates 100% of its proved reserves in the Reklaw area, including 63 gross (61 net) pro! ducing we! lls in the field with an average working interest of 97%. Its properties in the Black Bayou-Doyle Creek area is a natural gas-weighted field located in Angelina, Cherokee and Nacogdoches Counties, Texas, in close proximity to the Reklaw area.
