How Search Engines are Celebrating Valentine’s Day 2013

Why so blue, Yahoo? It seems Yahoo isn’t feeling the love this Valentine’s Day, though the other search engines – including Bing, DuckDuckGo, Dogpile, and Sogou – are celebrating the holiday with special logos or pictures on their home pages.

Google’s Valentine’s Day Doodle paid tribute to the Ferris Wheel and some interspecies match-making. So how did the rest of the search engines celebrate Valentine’s Day? With Cupid, hearts, and love birds:

Bing

Bing has a pair of love birds – well, actually a pair of little owls named Mr. Owl and Mrs. Owl – sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N.G.

Ask

Cupid made an appearance on Ask’s home page. Do you know which animal has three hearts? (Spoiler alert: it’s octopuses.)

AOL

AOL’s homepage featured a pink heart logo and assorted candy hearts with assorted messages like “LOVE” and “BE MINE”.

DuckDuckGo

Dax is ready for Valentine’s Day!

Dogpile

In a bit of déjà vu, Dogpile checks in with the same logo from last year – a nod to “Lady and the Tramp” that urges visitors to “stay out of the doghouse this Valentine’s Day by finding dinner deals and date ideas for your special someone” by linking to a search for [valentine’s day ideas].

Sogou

Chinese search engine Sogou checked in with this special Valentine’s Day logo:

And here’s how the search engines marked Valentine’s Day in 2012 and 2011.
