Previewing SMX London: The Speakers Speak!

Still wondering whether to attend Search Marketing Expo London? Our speakers have been particularly enthusiastic about telling the world about the conference and what they plan to talk about. Here’s a roundup of what they’re looking forward to at SMX London on May 18-19. Each of the links below points to a blog post where each speaker goes into more detail about what they expect.

SEOMoz CEO Rand Fishkin’s 10 Reasons You Must Attend SMX London: “My topic is exposing how the websites who’ve earned the most links in the shortest amount of time have done it – I’m going to be working hard to impress.” Rand offers ten compelling reasons why you should attend—my favorite: “I guarantee even someone like myself is going to come away with a decent amount of new information. Mel Carson from Microsoft’s adCenter: “Gabe Ingalls will be talking on the Understanding Searchers Needs & Intent panel and I�m honoured to be joining some great speakers to talk about Brand Reputation Management. We�ll be blogging on the site and providing a live Twitter feed for all those who can�t make the show, but who are still interested to hear who�s talking about what!”

Andy Atkins-Kruger from Web Certain writes: “SMX London has been adjusted to focus even more heavily on advanced search engine optimsiation and marketing topics providing a solid training opportunity for European-based search marketers.” Andy also has a great rundown of his favorite speakers and why you should be attending their presentations.

Richard Baxter of SEOgadget: “I�ll be drawing upon my experience as UK SEO Manager for Cheapflights.co.uk. I�ll also be covering how to interface SEO practises with the rest of the company, from content creation to SEO technical specifications.”

The CEO and founder of Search Laboratory, Ian Harris, will be speaking about the how search marketing can be the �kiss of life� for some businesses in today�s difficult economic climate. The emphasis will be on how both SEO and PPC marketing are �safer� more measurable forms of marketing, unlike TV and print media.

Guy Levine from Web Marketing Advisor also has a SMX London Presentation Teaser, for his Writing killer search ads & Landing pages session. He will be covering three points:

Ayima’s Jane Copland: “This show is quite special to me, not only because it was my first speaking gig in 2007, but because the SEO community in the UK have always been a fantastic group. I�m delighted to finally be somewhat of a domestic addition to the conference. Never the sorts to let an opportunity for a piss-up go by, we�ll be attempting to put together a LondonSEO party for Monday the 18th as well.”

Nick Abramovic from Zoosk writes: “My topic is about multivariate landing pages and testing. I�ll go into details and show how you can predict landing page conversion rates (yes, wake up every morning and already know how much money you will make).”

Lyndon Antcliff from Cornwall SEO will be speaking on the “Blow Your Mind Link Building Techniques” panel. “I will be sharing it with Patrick Altoft, Rand Fishkin and Pete Wailes. Most of the presentation is ready to go, but I am going to be using my Twitter account to do a little tinkering, throwing out some ideas and generally using it as a three dimensional scribble pad. The premise of the presentation is ‘The linker does not give the link because of the content, the link is given because of what is happening in their mind.’ With that in mind I can see why someone has already called it the ‘Zen and Art of Link Building.’”

Dixon Jones from Receptional talks about some of the changes we made to the agenda in SMX London becomes SMX Advanced?.

iCrossing’s Jonathan Stewart is one of the experts who will be analyzing websites in the SEO Checkup panel. “Here�s a few typical questions we might be able to help you answer:

Dean Chew from Ayima Search Marketing: “I am planning on speaking about utilising Facebook and Twitter, much of the presentation will be spent on Facebook Connect and also using the twitter API. All this will be wrapped in some case studies which should push people to really consider the power of using such technologies.”

The good folks at Distilled are speaking on several panels at SMX. Rob Ousbey gives an overview of the panels, and writes: “If there are any particular issues that you�d like to see covered, just leave a comment below and we�ll try to address them in the session.”

“Search cowboy” Bas van den Beld: “A conference does give inspiration and makes you think about certain topics and hand you the angle you need to ‘break through barriers’. An advanced event however has got a lot more to offer so you can learn a lot more.”

Emer Lawn from Interactive Return writes: “Julian Lynch, Commercial Director here in Interactive Return, will be speaking on 19 May on the “Analytics Every SEO Should Know.” The session will focus on the fact that SEO is certainly alive and well, and using Analytics guarantees you are squeezing the most return on your investment. Julian will be looking into developing a creative strategy for using Analytics to guarantee you�re getting the most value out of your analytics reporting.”

Maxymiser, a company specializing in multivariate testing is sending its managing director Mark Simpson, who will show how multivariate testing and segmentation testing strategies can increase landing page performance in support of search marketing and help increase conversion rate and ROI on campaigns.
